Every once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look for it right
— Jerry Garcia

I never know how to start these things. It’s an exercise in my anxieties, and I get all obsessed about word counts and whether or not I should just be vulnerable and say what is really inside. Like how this film came screaming out of me in a dark time and it became incandescent, and in it, so much heavy weight evaporated.  I’m never sure if I should just admit that when all the color ran out of the world, and I was the biggest asshole to myself, I decided to tell another story, about people desperate to love the person right next to them and somehow having forgotten how to do it. A comedy about people taking acid in the desert, and encountering the most fantastic manifestations of every facet of their souls, and the immeasurable beauty of the growth they can do when they walk through that fire. When I was able to convince myself to take a chance and ask a few people to drive out to the desert and rent an Airbnb and make a movie I was humbled by the group that came together, and I marveled at the magic we made, and I thought about how weird it would be if I mentioned that in a director’s statement. A friend of mine, she asked me on a random night in March, what was the point of the movie? And I thought about it, and I could only say “That love is the answer.” And I knew that it was right, and I printed it on a label maker and stuck it to the top of my computer and it reminded me every day why I was making this movie that I so dearly love, made by the people that I love. I hope you find something beautiful in it. Thank you for watching. I hope this wasn’t too weird. - Scott Brown
